Missing Persons Hanover – Location Tracking by Our Detectives

When searching for missing persons, the motivations can be financial, postponable, or urgent personal reasons. Especially when a person disappears from one day to the next, immediate action is required. Kurtz Investigations Hanover has a specialised and highly effective criminal investigation method for tracking traces: mantrailing (see below).

In addition to urgent cases, there are a number of other reasons why our Hanover detectives engage in locating individuals. These include finding family members, school friends, former colleagues who have been lost from sight, and establishing traceable addresses of debtors, as well as locating heirs. The more information you can provide, the higher our chances of success. Our private detectives and corporate investigators in Hanover are happy to discuss your case with you in detail: +49 511 2028 0016.

Person Search with Tracking Dogs: Mantrailing

A long-established method of criminal trace investigation is the use of tracking dogs. Even Sherlock Holmes relied on the services of his mongrel, Toby. Over the last decades, tracking dogs have mostly fallen out of fashion as investigative tools and were primarily used in rescue operations. However, so-called mantrailing, the search for a person using tracking dogs, opens up new, sometimes spectacular possibilities for criminalistics.

Some Mantrailers have fascinating Abilities

Individually highly trained mantrailer dogs are capable of detecting the odour molecules that every person emits individually and following the scent trail over great distances and time periods (odorology). The abilities of mantrailers vary significantly depending on breed and training. There are reports of mantrailers reliably tracking scents even after years, across motorways and even rivers. Police estimates of mantrailer capabilities are generally more conservative, often citing a maximum of three weeks, sometimes only a few days. From professional experience, Kurtz Detective Agency Hanover can confirm that mantrailers are capable of extraordinary feats; here is a case from our Düsseldorf colleagues: mantrailer deployment saves lives.

Kurtz Investigations Hanover collaborates nationwide with mantrailers at various locations. If you do not know how to proceed, call us and make use of this powerful investigative tool: +49 511 2028 0016.

An interesting article by Mario Seydel on mantrailing can be found in the commemorative publication for the 10th anniversary of the German Society for Criminology, or in a shortened version at www.kriminalistik.info.

Police Often Neither Friend Nor Helper – Detectives as the First Alternative

In 2015, Hanover was shaken by two serious police scandals. It became known that officers, acting in “teamwork” for xenophobic reasons, had committed violent assaults and humiliations against migrants. The victims were supposedly guilty of serious offences (note the sarcasm): not carrying identification and using a train without a ticket. The fact that they were taken into custody for these minor offences is already a minor scandal.

At the station, the “officers” then completely lost control: one victim, a Muslim, was forced to eat spoiled pork from the floor. Another was beaten, strangled, and dragged across the floor by his ankle restraints. One of the perpetrators later boasted in a WhatsApp message seen by NDR: “He squeaked like a pig. That was a gift from Allah.” One police officer allegedly even tried to coerce colleagues into sexual acts by threatening them with a firearm. These are the very people who are supposed to ensure security and conduct investigations in Germany. Proceedings for bodily harm and violations of the Weapons Act are underway against these “law enforcers.”

Cases of violent assaults motivated by xenophobia from police against alleged offenders have unfortunately become more frequent in recent years.

Antiquated Views in Authorities also evident in Mantrailing

Mantrailing has proven so effective that some state police departments now use it, and it can be considered strong evidence in court. However, this is only the case in certain federal states, such as Berlin. Other authorities, operating within Germany’s complex federal system of criminology, cling to outdated ideas about law enforcement and judicial processes and ignore even the clearest evidence produced by modern methods. In Saxony, for example, methods like mantrailing are likely to be recognised only after even more effective techniques have already replaced them. The obstinacy and backwardness of individual officers is astonishing.

Kurtz Detective Agency Hanover has even experienced cases where, after a mantrailer deployment, the perpetrators were clearly identified. We provided the responsible officers with concrete recommendations on how further unequivocal evidence could be collected, yet the authorities ignored it for over a year. One case involved securing a typewriter. When the authorities finally seized it, they claimed they did not have the technical means to analyse the handwriting forensically. Kurtz Detective Agency Hanover would have been happy to assist, but access was denied.
